Funny Gifts for Coworkers That Won’t Summon HR

Buying a funny gift for a coworker is a tiny workplace risk assessment wrapped in tissue paper.
Too generic and it says, “I drew your name eleven minutes ago.” Too personal and suddenly Linda from Compliance is asking everyone to remain available.
The sweet spot is simple: make fun of the shared office nonsense, not the person.
Funny gifts for coworkers have three difficulty settings
Level one: person from the org chart. You work together. You are pleasant. You do not know what is happening in their refrigerator.
Stay broad: meetings, email, printers, coffee, team-building exercises, calendar chaos.
Level two: actual work friend. You know what makes them laugh, what they complain about, and whether a mildly rude candle will improve or end the friendship.
Level three: work bestie. You have screenshots. Proceed according to local law.
Jynx would like us to clarify that Level Three is not legal advice.
The safest office joke is the one everybody has already made
This Could Have Been an Email works because nobody needs context. The meeting had a pre-read. The meeting also had a meeting about the pre-read. Civilization continues.
Its scent is called Unnecessary Meeting, because apparently we were not finished.

For the team-building survivor
Mandatory Team Building is for anyone who heard “trust fall” and immediately began calculating available PTO.
The scent is Fool Me Once. We support professional development. We simply question why it requires being dropped backward by Chad from Accounting.
For the office crime everybody remembers
Fish in the Microwave is for a workplace with history.
Use this only if the joke is communal and not a passive-aggressive message aimed at one specific person who is currently holding a fork.
Same rule for The Bathroom Is Now a Biozone. Funny among friends. Potentially fascinating evidence if left anonymously on a desk.
Need something quieter? Small-shop wins exist
Not every coworker wants fragrance or another desk object the size of a toaster.
Guttersnipe Press’ This Is Fine sticker understands the modern workplace with very little square footage.
Stay Home Club’s Overreact magnet is another small option for a coworker whose sense of humor you already know.
Small is good. Specific is good. “I saw this and immediately thought of the quarterly forecast incident” is excellent.
Office Secret Santa? Use this filter
- Would this be funny if their manager saw it?
- Is the joke about work, not their body, dating life, religion, politics or private life?
- Do they actually like candles, fragrance, stationery, magnets, or whatever you are buying?
- Can they open it without you giving a defensive speech?
If the final answer is “well, technically,” choose something else.
Funny should feel like recognition, not a test
The best funny gifts for coworkers say, “We survived the same ridiculous thing.”
The worst say, “I have been observing you in a way that now requires documentation.”
Keep the joke shared. Keep the gift useful. Keep everybody out of a conference room with frosted glass.
Get the laugh. Keep the job.
